Topic:
Reinforced Soil Slopes and Retaining Structures using Maccaferri Terramesh
Course Overview:
When modifying a soil slope beyond its natural angle of repose, there are many factors that must be considered. Before starting the design work, a thorough geotechnical investigation is recommended. Reinforced soil technology can be applied to various applications, including vertical retaining walls, bridge abutments, steep slopes, and landslide repairs. These structures have proven to outperform conventional rigid retaining structures, particularly under extreme dynamic and seismic conditions, where they are significantly resilient.
Maccaferri Terramesh is a renowned modular, adaptable, eco-conscious solution that has been utilised in numerous mechanically stabilised earth (MSE) wall and slope projects worldwide, including some of the world's tallest reinforced soil structures.
This webinar will discuss the integration of these high-performance solutions with environmental considerations in soil reinforcement. The speaker, Matteo Lelli will highlight the use of the Terramesh solutions in combination with Maccaferri geogrids to reinforce soils, enabling them to stand higher and steeper to accommodate higher loads and reuse on-site soils.
Speaker:
Matteo Lelli is an Italian chartered civil engineer with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Hydraulic Engineering from the University of Pisa (Italy). He also holds an MBA Degree from the Bandung Institute of Technology (Indonesia). Matteo’s areas of expertise are retaining structures and geosynthetics reinforced soil structures, riverbank protection, costal protection, slope stability, soil nailing, rockfall protection and erosion control.
Matteo joined Maccaferri in 2013 at their Italian headquarters and has work experience in Malaysia and Indonesia, where he served for 5 years as Technical Manager. He is now the Head of Business Development – SEAP & ANZ.
Learning Outcomes:
- Gain an understanding of the differences between the reinforced soil systems
- Learning which systems are appropriate based on the project requirements and site conditions
- Exploring the environmental considerations involved when using Terramesh solutions
