MITIGATING EROSION AT HOBSONVILLE POINT WITH TEXCEL R
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
In February 2024, a residential development at Hobsonville Point in Auckland was experiencing severe tidal erosion, threatening the stability and safety of the nearby shoreline. To prevent further damage, a revetment seawall was necessary to act as a protective barrier between the land and the sea.
Geofabrics New Zealand was contacted by Envelope Engineering and contractor, Dempsey Wood to provide a solution to protect the community and its shoreline.
OUR SOLUTION
To mitigate erosion, Geofabrics recommended using Texcel R non-woven staple fibre geotextile. Texcel 900R was installed beneath the seawall as a separation layer between the native soil and the rock revetment. The material composition of Texcel R provided a strong defence against tidal water movement, ensuring the integrity and longevity of the seawall structure.
The installation of Texcel 900R significantly contributed to the successful construction of the revetment seawall. With assistance from a spreader bar, it only took the contractor approximately 10 days to install 2100m² of Texcel R.
