PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Bellfield Estate is a new residential development located next to Opaheke Park in Papakura, Auckland with plans to build over 500 contemporary homes across 22 hectares of land. Designed for families and people from all walks of life, this development features natural landscaping, modern architecture and various amenities, conveniently located nearby.

OUR SOLUTION

Situated in open paddocks with wetlands, the project site required a retaining wall solution to prepare the foundation for the construction of Bellfield Estate. To maximise usable space and gain more developable land, Verti-Block was suggested to the client.

Geofabrics New Zealand and Bowers (the block manufacturer), worked closely with the consultant to design the 35m long Verti-Block retaining wall. A total of 148 Verti-Block units were supplied to the installers, Pemberton Civil Contractors, who completed the works with the support of a telehandler and excavators. As a result, the retaining wall provided approximately an additional 3,500m² of developable land, laying the foundation for the construction of 15 housing lots.

Verti-Block is a quick and easy to install solution that provided an aesthetically pleasing, natural finish for the residential development. The contractor has commented on the simplicity and cost-effectiveness of installing Verti-Block compared to other conventional solid block retaining wall systems, with the hollow, lightweight design of the blocks resulting in savings on labour, equipment and transportation costs.

PRODUCT USED

Verti-Block® Concrete Block

  • A perfectly proportioned concrete block that is used for soil reinforced and gravity walls in popular types of applications across civil engineering and landscaping projects
  • Easy installation with the ability to move blocks and put them into place with smaller equipment, there’s no need for heavy machines like a crane
  • Engineered for strength, Verti-Block’s hollow structure improves its ability to retain earth, even in poor soil conditions thanks to its interlocking connection design to ensure a secure fit
  • It is lighter than solid blocks, which lowers labour, equipment and transportation costs
