MEGAFLO GREEN DRAIN PIPE TRANSFORMS PLAYING CONDITIONS AT NARNUNGGA PARK
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
In 2017, the South Australia Cricket Association (SACA) and Adelaide City Council collaborated on the redevelopment of Narnungga Park 25 multi-purpose sports pavilion. This included a new multi-purpose sports pavilion to replace the existing clubhouses, upgraded cricket and football fields, and a floodlit beach sports facility.
Historically, the football and cricket fields suffered from an undulating surface and poor drainage. The clay-type soils common in the region, combined with limited natural drainage, made it challenging to maintain consistent playing conditions. Ensuring improved drainage was a key objective to provide high-quality, playable surfaces year-round for both SACA and the South Australian Amateur Football League.
OUR SOLUTION
The client required a solution that could be installed across the entire oval, providing sufficient strength to withstand ongoing construction loads, excellent drainage performance, and cost-effectiveness. Megaflo® Green socked slotted drain pipe was selected for this purpose due to its durability, ability to drain water up to 4.9 times faster than a 100-millimetre round agi pipe, and ease of installation.
The panels were laid flat, connected using various Megaflo fittings, and then covered with approximately 200 millimetres of sand. Its strength and shape allowed for a trenchless installation, eliminating the need for gravel backfill and the disposal of trench spoils, which significantly reduced installation costs for the client.
This approach delivered a durable, high-performing sports field capable of withstanding both wet and dry seasons while optimising project efficiency and lowering overall costs for SACA and Adelaide City Council.
